Franziska Hirsch Dresden Hand Painted Courting Couple Green & Beaded Gold Cup
Beautiful porcelain empire form chocolate cup and saucer. The cup is decorated with a hand painted courting couple framed by gold scrollwork. With green bands with gold beaded net overlay and pink roses over white in gold scrollwork above gold rings, scrollwork, more rings, and arch designs. The saucer has the same bands, but is painted with two courting couple scenes. The cup has gold floral entwined swags along the inside and gold scrollwork designs along the foot rim. The cup is marked
on the bottom in blue with Rapier swords over an S. This is an underglaze manufacturer mark and was used by P Donath & Louis Levinsohn / Lowinson in Tiefenfurt, Silesia between 1886 and 1891. The cup does not have a decorator's mark, but is clearly a match for the saucer. The saucer isarked on the bottom with an overglaze blue crossed mark over an H and Dresden. This mark was used by Franziska Hirsch in Dresden Germany between 1893 and 1930.
Excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
The cup measures approximately 3 7/8 inches wide including the handle x 4 1/4 inches tall.
The saucer measures approximately 5 1/4 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
KT
...
